Alfalfa – Queen of Forage Crops and King of Drought Tolerance

We are taking a few steps back and a big jump forward to what was actually working.

The highly drought resistant perennial has been ‘quiet’ for some decades.

Its golden age came to a halt in the 70’es when maize and soy spread worldwide as the forage silage products and protein concentrate, in a time where monoculture mineral fertilizers and pesticides seemed to go hand in hand into the sunset.
Now we are wiser knowing one size does not fit all. We are taking a few steps back and a big jump forward to what was actually working in the biodiverse and more sustainable agriculture.

Alfalfa is, and always was, a very stable drought tolerant forage option. It is redefined in the DLF breeding program and refined with nitrogen fixing bacteria.
