Get your sward off to a good start
A good and productive grazing field starts with the basics. Before you sow, you have to set the right conditions for seed germination and growth. The best times to sow are spring or late summer and early autumn. That's when moisture levels and soil temperatures are conducive to fast and healthy germination.
Depending on the grass species, you need to sow anything from 15 to 25 million seeds per hectare. Ideal grazing pasture contains around 300 to 500 plants per square metre with 10 to 12 shoots or tillers per plant. That's roughly 5.000 to 7.000 tillers per square metre.
This corresponds to a normal seeding rate of 30-35kg per hectare.
