New Brunswick and Rutgers University host the International Turfgrass Research Conference

More than 300 scientists and turf-grass professionals gathered for five days of discussion and discovery at the 13th International Turfgrass Research Conference. The conference took place during late July in New Brunswick, home to the State University of New Jersey, commonly known as Rutgers University.

As a sponsor of the conference, DLF took the opportunity to focus on its new generation of 4turf® perennial ryegrass. During oral and poster sessions, we shared the latest findings in turf genetics and management. We also discussed how the trend for low input has become so well-established, most turf science now takes that approach as standard. For example, some of the latest results show how new genetic strains and improved management produce excellent turf with very little input of e.g. nitrogen and water. Our message about improved performance was well received and understood.

Conference participants also had the opportunity to take part in a technical tour of the superbly well-maintained Bayonne Golf Club. The course, which opened in 2006, is built on dredged river deposits topped with soil. Bayonne golfers enjoy a beautiful view across the Upper New York Bay to Manhattan, and first-class turf grown from DLF seed.

The next conference will take place in Copenhagen in July 2021.
