Two new custom-grown pitches ready in 2015

The Danish Premier League's best pitch was destroyed during the 2013 European Championship in jumping and dressage for horses.

The Danish Premier League's best pitch - MCH Arena in Herning – was destroyed during the 2013 European Championship in jumping and dressage for horses. It was therefore necessary to lay new custom-grown sod at the stadium in August. Already in December 2013 Herning could again boast of having Denmark’s best pitch according to the league’s Captains. The sod used on MCH Arena is by no means just “normal sod”. On the contrary is has been made especially for MCH Arena.

Operator at Herning Municipality, Anders Faber Nielsen says: "Already in 2011 when it became clear that the big show came to Herning, we started planning how we could get the stadium ready for soccer again”.

To ensure a professional solution Herning Municipality ordered Prodana to make the new pitch on a 5 cm weed-free soil which was exactly similar to the sandy soil that was already at the stadium.

Anders says: " Matching soil is important if the grass should be drained properly and not get worn out in the season's earliest and latest matches that are played in rainy periods".

The lawn seed mixture used for the sod is a mixture between Smooth-stalked meadow-grass and Ryegrass. The varieties are among the most wear tolerant available. After sowing it has been nurtured by the book and overseeded with the new Ryegrass 4turf, which is also used on the pitches in the football championship in Brazil.

In autumn 2013 Prodana established two acres of sod following the same custom-grown concept. This means that two other clubs could get new pitches in absolute top quality delivered in 2015.
